We're always keeping an eye on what's coming to the neighborhoods we call home, and the bar for what makes great living great just keeps climbing. 

We're excited to see where these projects take us; and, of course, manifesting blue management signs on some (all?) of these awesome initiatives.

A big congratulations is in order for Andre Shakom!

On top of his day-to-day responsibilities, Andre recently completed his full slate of ICA certifications — earning credentials across 12 inspection specialties.

This certification means faster, sharper issue identification, better documentation, and strong communication across our teams when it matters most. 

But he didn't stop there. With his new certification, he's looking ahead — putting together ideas that will help lead and grow our CapEx department even further.

Watching new properties come to life is something we love to watch. 

Last year, Macon Construction Group broke ground on Five Points Lakeview — 52 apartment units, 5,500 SF of retail, and 12 parking spaces — right where all the action happens on Chicago's North Side. 

This year, that vision became reality. We welcomed residents home for the very first time earlier this spring. 

There's nothing quite like watching a property rise from the ground up, and we're proud to be the ones managing it now that it's here.

Seth Barnhart embodies this sentiment extraordinarily well. As a Property Manager overseeing several communities across our Hyde Park portfolio, Seth juggles a distinct market with one consistent philosophy: strong operations start with strong resident relationships. 

That philosophy showed up recently when a resident had to move suddenly into a senior living facility and couldn't get back to her apartment to collect her belongings. To help during a difficult time, Seth stepped in — personally picking up and dropping off some new clothes so she'd have what she needed and feel a little more comfortable during a difficult transition.

The action and care he took for this resident earned him a shoutout in our internal Employee Newsletter. This kind of care is a standard we point to when we talk about what great property management looks like.

Residents here get the best of the neighborhood — food and shopping on every corner, plus the ultimate convenience: a sweet treat and coffee on the ground floor of their own building.

Back in 2023, we partnered with this very Stan's location, and in 2026, we're hoping to bring it back. Our marketing team is working on what another partnership might look like with our newest commercial tenants. 

We love Wicker Park and we're looking forward to taking on more assignments in this iconic neighborhood.

We're so grateful to our team of organizers, movers, and shakers who make it all possible. It can get downright chaotic at times, but we wouldn't have it any other way!

The numbers don't lie: The Maven is leasing up fast. 

We're only a few leases away from 100% occupancy. It's an accomplishment we are very proud of.

But for residents, signing a lease is just the beginning. Moving in, day-to-day living, and the relationships built with building staff and neighbors is what makes residents want to stay for the long haul.

For us, move-in day is about being a friendly face at the start of someone's new chapter.

Our team has been at The Maven all summer welcoming residents home, but we don't stop there. Residents are greeted by team members putting faces to names, welcomed with an exciting, engaging environment (hello, pastries to start the day off right), and handed apartment essentials like our Move-in & Resident Guide; packed with all the need-to-know details that make apartment living easy.

We were there at groundbreaking. We were there during leasing. We were there on move-in day. And we'll continue to be there for our residents as they settle into their new home.

For more than two decades, Sound-Bar has been a staple of Chicago's nightlife scene. Next spring, we'll say goodbye to Sound-Bar and hello to a completely reimagined 226 W. Ontario. 

It's bittersweet, but projects like these breathe new life into buildings that have been part of the city's story for generations. Preserving their character while adapting them for modern living is one of the best ways to maintain that quintessential Chicago charm we all know and love.

We're excited to see this historic building begin its next chapter.
