It's National Customer Service Week!

When you're in the property management business, you're in the business of customer service. We're lucky to have such a customer-centric team, particularly Joan Guardalabene.

If you know Peak, you know Joan. She's our Customer Support Coordinator and a fierce advocate for all-things-customer.

She spearheads our monthly move-in days for residents, runs our renter's insurance initiatives, synthesizes customer feedback and recommends ways we can further improve, and even takes trips to Costco when we're running low on the most coveted component of our move-in bags — the snacks!

This Customer Service Week, we want to say thank you, Joan, for nearly six years of showing up for our residents and our team.

The title says it all. Property Managers are resilient, hard-working, and able to pivot quickly to find a solution to nearly every problem at almost any time of day.

Today, we recognize and thank them for their hard work, dedication, and expertise when it comes to… pretty much everything.

Peak wouldn't be Peak without so many property managers — past, present, and future. We're grateful to have you, and we can't thank you enough.

Meet Amy, the Project Manager who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks — even when there are multiple offices involved.

Amy splits her time between Peak and Cross Street, helping ensure we're moving projects, new assignments, and important initiatives along; she's kind of like a human sync button.

When deadlines shift, or we need to make a pivot quickly, Amy is always there (three steps ahead) making sure our teams are speaking the same language and pulling in the same direction.

Her superpower? Making "aligned" look easy. Next time a project comes together without a hitch, think of Amy and all the hard work she's doing behind the scenes to make it happen.

Courtney didn't have to go far for her latest travels — the EmpowHER Multifamily Conference was hosted right here in Chicago this year. 

EmpowHer is an annual leadership and networking event designed to elevate, connect, and inspire women working in the multifamily industry. Attendees dove into key presentations, business workshops, and sessions covering industry trends, communications, AI, digital marketing, and technology. 

We're big believers in ongoing education and industry engagement — and we especially love supporting events that foster education, community, and collaboration for women in our field. 

The sunset cruise, coordinated pink dress code, and social events? Well, that was just the cherry on top.

The team recently took a cruise down Chicago's greatest amenity, enjoying the views, the weather, and the company. It's always a treat to step outside of the office, especially when a boat is involved.

Please join us in congratulating our Marketing & Communications Manager, Sarah Rider, on completing her Master's program from Northwestern University Medill School.

Over the last two years, Sarah has been balancing night school with full-time work, sharpening her craft in a program built around strategic, data-driven brand building, customer-centered marketing, executive communications, finance, public relations, and digital media.

She'll celebrate the finish line this December, when she officially walks the stage to get her degree in-hand.

A big congratulations is in order for Andre Shakom!

On top of his day-to-day responsibilities, Andre recently completed his full slate of ICA certifications — earning credentials across 12 inspection specialties.

This certification means faster, sharper issue identification, better documentation, and strong communication across our teams when it matters most. 

But he didn't stop there. With his new certification, he's looking ahead — putting together ideas that will help lead and grow our CapEx department even further. 

Congratulations, Andre! This is what raising the bar looks like.

Great property management isn't just about square footage and rent rolls, it's about relationships. 

Seth Barnhart embodies this sentiment extraordinarily well. As a Property Manager overseeing several communities across our Hyde Park portfolio, Seth juggles a distinct market with one consistent philosophy: strong operations start with strong resident relationships. 

That philosophy showed up recently when a resident had to move suddenly into a senior living facility and couldn't get back to her apartment to collect her belongings. To help during a difficult time, Seth stepped in — personally picking up and dropping off some new clothes so she'd have what she needed and feel a little more comfortable during a difficult transition.

The action and care he took for this resident earned him a shoutout in our internal Employee Newsletter. This kind of care is a standard we point to when we talk about what great property management looks like.

We've made it through the thick of leasing season, and anyone in property management (or an adjacent industry) knows exactly what this photo means: sorting keys, matching labels, and somehow figuring out what goes where.

It may not be the most glamorous part of operations, but it's these details and this organization that keep our buildings running smoothly for the residents who live there.

We're so grateful to our team of organizers, movers, and shakers who make it all possible. It can get downright chaotic at times, but we wouldn't have it any other way!
